Wired

Wired, also called back-to-back, is a pair, trips or four of a kind that is dealt consecutively, usually the first cards of a stud hand. The cards are of the same rank and came one after another.

The simple explanation

In seven-card stud, if your first two cards are the same rank, you are wired. A hand with three of the same rank in a row is rolled up.

A closer look

Being wired in stud is a strong start, since a pair is hidden, if the cards are face down, or visible, if the second card is the upcard. The word is also used for a pair in the hole in Hold'em, a wired pair. Players should think about how the pair is seen by the opponents, and how many of the same cards are visible in the other players' cards.

A practical example

In seven-card stud, a player is dealt two eights as the first two cards. He is wired with a pair.
