Poker glossary
Sequence
A sequence is a group of cards of consecutive ranks, as in a straight: four, five, six, seven, eight.
The simple explanation
If your cards follow each other in rank, they are a sequence. Five cards in sequence make a straight. Four in sequence are a draw.
A closer look
The word is used for the cards that make straights and for describing hands: a four-card sequence is an open-ended draw. The ace can be used at both ends of a sequence. Suits are not important for a sequence, but with the same suit it is a straight flush.
A practical example
The cards 4♥ 5♦ 6♣ 7♠ 8♥ are a sequence from four to eight.
