Force‑In

A force-in is a mandatory blind bet, usually with an option to raise. The player must put the money in before the cards are seen or before action.

The simple explanation

A force-in is a bet that you must make. The blinds are the best-known example: you must post them, but you may have the option to raise when the action comes back.

A closer look

The term describes a forced bet in general. In games such as stud, the bring-in is another forced bet. Forced bets make sure that there is money in the pot to fight for. If you miss a forced bet, the room may require you to post it before you can be dealt in again.

A practical example

A player in the big blind makes his force-in before the hand and keeps the option to raise.
