Late Position

Late position means the last seats to act in a betting round, usually the button and the cutoff. These positions are advantageous, since the players see how the others act first.

The simple explanation

Seats close to the button act late. You can see what everyone has done before you decide.

A closer look

From late position, you can play more hands, steal blinds and control the pot. Ranges widen toward the button. After the flop, the player on the button acts last. Being in late position is a major source of profit.

A practical example

On the button, you act last, so you can raise with more hands.
