Liner

A liner is a face card. The name comes from the line you can see when the card is face down and its lower right corner is lifted.

The simple explanation

When you lift the corner of a face card, you can see a line. That is why face cards are called liners.

A closer look

The name is old table slang. It works only with the cards of that style, and you will not hear it often today. Some players still use it for a jack, queen or king.

A practical example

A player lifts the corner of his cards and sees a liner.
