Northern Flight

Northern Flight is seven-card stud in which all hearts are wild, unless a spade is in the hand.

The simple explanation

It is a wild-card version of seven-card stud. Hearts count as any card, but if you hold a spade, they are no longer wild.

A closer look

Because wild cards make strong hands common, the winning hands are higher than in normal stud. The spade rule adds a twist: a spade can cancel your wild hearts, so a player may prefer not to take one. Agree on the details before the game, since this variant is played mostly at home.

A practical example

A player has three hearts among his seven cards in Northern Flight. They are wild, so he uses them to make four of a kind.
