Pot-Limit

Pot-limit is a betting structure in which a player can bet or raise any amount up to the current size of the pot. The most popular pot-limit game is Omaha, known as PLO.

The simple explanation

In pot-limit, you can bet anything from the minimum up to the pot. If the pot is 100, you can bet at most 100. A raise can be the amount to call plus the size of the pot after the call.

A closer look

Pot-limit lies between limit and no-limit. Stacks can go in over several streets, so postflop play is deep. Calculating the maximum raise is important: a pot-sized raise is the pot after calling plus the call. In pot-limit Omaha, equities run close, which creates many drawing hands and a lot of action. Players often say 'pot' to bet the maximum.

A practical example

The pot is 40 and a player bets 10. The next player can raise up to 70: 10 to call plus 60 (the pot of 50 plus the call of 10).
