See

To see is to call. In the old style, a player says 'I see your bet' when he matches it.

The simple explanation

In old stories, a player says 'I see that $20 and raise $50'. Seeing a bet means calling it.

A closer look

Do not use this form at a modern table. If you say 'I see your $20 and raise you $50' in two parts, it can be treated as a string bet, because the chips and the words must show the same action. Say 'call' or 'raise' and the amount at once.

A practical example

A player in an old western film says: 'I see your twenty dollars.' It means that he calls.
