Two‑Tone

A two-tone board is a board with exactly two different suits, so a flush draw is possible. On a two-tone flop, two cards are of one suit and the third is of another.

The simple explanation

For example, 8♠ 6♠ 2♦ is two-tone. Players with two spades have a flush draw. Boards with three different suits are rainbow, and boards with one suit are monotone.

A closer look

On a two-tone flop, flush draws exist, but flushes are not yet made. This makes the board more dynamic than a rainbow board, and many players bet to charge the draws. A backdoor flush draw is also possible for hands with one card of the third suit. When the turn brings a third card of the suit, the board becomes much more dangerous.

A practical example

The flop is K♥ 7♥ 2♣. It has two hearts and a club, so it is a two-tone flop.
