Each player gets cards as in five-card stud, and one card is turned face up in the middle of the table. Every card of that rank is wild for everybody.

The table card is also called a spit card or a wild widow. Since the wild rank is set by that card, it changes from deal to deal, and the value of hands changes with it. Because wild cards make strong hands common, the winning hands are higher than in normal stud. Players need to agree on how hands rank with wild cards.
