Third Street

Third street is the first betting round in seven-card stud, after each player has received three cards. It is named after the third card.

The simple explanation

In seven-card stud, you get two cards face down and one face up. Then there is a round of betting called third street. The player with the lowest door card must bring in.

A closer look

On third street, you decide whether to play, based on your three cards and the up cards of the others. Good starting hands are pairs, three to a straight flush and high cards that are live. After third street come fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh street. The bring-in is the forced bet that starts the action.

A practical example

A player is dealt A♥ A♦ face down and 7♣ up. He plays the hand on third street.
