Lowcard

Lowcard is the card with the lowest value in a hand or on the board. In stud, the player with the lowcard must start the betting with the bring-in.

The simple explanation

In seven-card stud, the player whose up card is the lowest has to open the betting. That card is the lowcard.

A closer look

In seven-card stud, the lowest door card brings in. When two cards have the same rank, suits break the tie: clubs are lowest, then diamonds, hearts and spades. In razz, the highest card brings in. The term is also used in lowball.

A practical example

In stud, a player shows 2♣ as the lowest door card and must bring in.
