Mechanic
A mechanic is a cheat who manipulates the deck, for example by dealing from the bottom instead of the top, or from the middle, or by dealing the second card instead of the first.
The simple explanation
A mechanic uses sleight of hand to give himself good cards or to give others bad cards. He is a card cheat.
A closer look
Mechanics are skilled at card handling, which makes them hard to detect. Casinos use cameras, shufflers and trained dealers to prevent such cheating. If a dealer deals in a strange way, tell the floor.
A practical example
A dealer deals himself cards from the bottom of the deck. He is a mechanic.
