Limit Poker
Limit poker is poker in which the size of every bet and raise is fixed. Players can only bet the set amount for the round, not any amount they choose. It is also called fixed-limit poker.
The simple explanation
In a limit game, the bets are always the same size on a given street. For example, in a $2/$4 game, bets and raises before the flop and on the flop are $2, and on the turn and river they are $4.
A closer look
Limit games usually allow a fixed number of raises on each round, often a bet and three raises. Because players cannot put in more than the set amount, the game relies more on pot odds, hand values and careful play than on bluffing with large bets. Limit Hold'em, limit Omaha high-low and many stud games are played this way. It is the opposite of no-limit, where a player can bet all of his chips at any time.
A practical example
In a $2/$4 limit game, the flop bet is $2 and the turn bet is $4, no matter how big the pot is.
