Must-Move

Must-move is a rule in some card rooms: to protect the main game, the players of a second game must move into the first game when seats open there.

The simple explanation

A room may run a main game and a second game. When someone leaves the main game, the player who has played longest in the second game must move to fill the seat.

A closer look

The rule keeps the main game full and the best game running. Players may not like being forced to move, but it benefits the room and the players of the main game. The player who moves usually keeps his chips and seat order. The rules differ by room.

A practical example

A $2/$5 game has a must-move table, and a player is moved to the main table when a seat opens.
