Open Card
An open card is a card dealt face up. In stud and some other games, open cards are seen by all players.
The simple explanation
If a card is face up, everybody can see it. In seven-card stud, you have open cards and closed cards.

Open cards give information. In stud, you see the open cards of the opponents and use them to estimate hands and to count live cards. The community cards in Hold'em are open as well.
